Dance for Suriname

On Saturday the 16th of January Solid Foundation organizes a ‘Dance for Suriname’. The Bacon ‘n Beans Band will play jazz & world music. There will also be Surinamese snacks and an auction. DJ Meritha and DJ Abdul will take care of the music.

Why do we organize this benefit party? In Suriname, a system is currently being developed for the accreditation and quality assurance of higher education. Diplomas and titles of Surinamese students are internationally insufficiently recognised. An improvement in the quality of education and better recognition of diplomas will benefit the Surinamese society. Students want their voices to be reflected in the current educational reforms and have asked Solid Foundation for support. By organising a seminar about accreditation and the quality of education we would like to share our experience and knowledge with the Surinamese students, so they can contribute to the improvement of their universities.

Would you like to support Surinamese students in their fight for recognition and good quality of education? Join the benefit party and support the project!

The Solid Foundation is a non-profit student organization that supports student democracy and student representation around the world.

You Feel Like Flying

On our way to Moldova Desiree felt excited: “Now it feels like we are really going somewhere”. To fly towards a goal, was the goal of one of the exercises we started the Training of Trainers (ToT) weekend with. This was an exercise where the participants had to build a paper airplane, on that paper they had to write their personal learning goals. After that, they were trying to let the airplane fly over the training table. The participants that attended the training this weekend were very cool to work with. We created a full programme for the summer camp that will start on 27 July.

This weekend we made great progression. We trained five students that are capable to provide high quality trainings at the end of July. Furthermore, a group of students was working on the organisation of the summer camp.

Ana, Mihaela, Oleasa, Lylia and Terentie are going to create and provide different trainings in cooperation with the solid members. The Moldovan trainers and members of Solid will provide these trainings at the summer camp. To spend free time after these trainings, the organizational group set up an exciting cultural programme. What the activities will be like exactly is a surprise! The participants were very serious and involved, everybody was participating actively and motivated. Though there was a very informal atmosphere, in the evening time we had a lot of fun and we tested the swimming pool already (even in the breaks). At the end of the training, the participants got their paper airplanes back and took the bus with a sleepy yet satisfied feeling, back to Chisinau.

It was a fruitful week. The programme of the summer camp is prepared, and there are some good new trainers. Keep in touch with the website to stay up to date! We are travelling back to the Netherlands with a satisfied feeling. We reached our goals; the goals of this event are realised even better than expected.
